India’s BrahMos anti-ship missile today launched from a warship hit its target located nearly 290km away.

INS Ranvijay is a Rajput-class destroyer armed with one stern mounted 8-cell Brahmos VLS launcher. The missile has a top speed of Mach 2.8, a very low-cruise altitude of 10 meters at terminal phase and impeccable accuracy.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms. It is the world`s fastest operational system in its class.

The Army test-fired the surface-to-surface variant with a speed of Mach 2.8 on November 24. Tests of the land attack variant whose range was extended to 400km from the original 290km was reportedly held last week.
